Dinosaurs were reptiles born in the middle and Late Triassic (about 234 million years ago), of which non bird dinosaurs left the world at the end of the Cretaceous (about 66 million years ago), and another of the dinosaurs evolved into birds to survive. Dinosaur fossils in China are often called "the first big country of dinosaurs". Although dinosaur research started late, the dinosaur fossils have developed rapidly, and have been in the forefront of the discovery and research of paleontological fossils over the past hundred years. As of May 2014, 244 species of dinosaurs have been named in China, ranking first in the world.
