reported by the British Daily Mail on September 10th, British old Mrs. Eddie Blockleysby is 71 years old, but she is a sports girl. From more than 60 to now she has participated in four Triathlon competitions, including 2.4 miles (4 kilometers), 112 miles (180 kilometers) and 26.2 miles (about 42 kilometers). She used her own experience to prove that it is never too late to keep fit.
grandma Addie was born in Bristol and now retired in London. She actually started running at the age of 50, but since then she has overcome a series of physical handicap that young people can hardly overcome. She said that sport has become an indispensable part of her life, and her physique and mind have increased accordingly.
when she was in menopause, she began to exercise under the doctor's advice. Menopausal women are more at risk of osteoporosis, because changes in hormone levels in the body make their bones brittle. Sports, especially weight training, is one of the best ways for women to improve their bone density and keep fit. For this reason, grandma Addie started exercising and joined the Nottingham half marathon to supervise herself. She joked that she had another motive, "my husband said I could never finish half a marathon, so I had to prove that he was wrong!" after that, she took four London marathons and got 3 hours and 56 minutes.
but later, her knee hurts so that she has to stop running. Under the influence of her sons, she opted for the triathlon and joined the competition with her son. She said, "it's good to do such a thing with the family, even if you lose it!" the grandchildren jokingly called her "mad granny", and she wanted to be a model for three children and four grandchildren, and to be healthy and well proportioned at the same age.
besides exercising, sports also brought her richer social life. In the running club, she has made many friends, various professions, all ages, and her common interest is sports. She also raised money for charity through sports, known as the "living legend". This week, she wanted to help a charity to publicize it. She liked it very much.
