Academician of academician of China Academy of Sciences

Li Xiaowen / > yesterday (April 21st) A picture of a poor looking old man sat down at the podium of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and he bowed his head and read his speech. The old man with a beard, black clothes, black cloth shoes and no socks was not a poor report, but a academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Xiaowen. According to "Economic Observer" reported on 2009, when he was 61 years old, he could drink a catty of Erguotou every day.
Li Xiaowen was born in 1947, Sichuan people. 1963-1968 years in the Chengdu telecommunications engineering college, the Telecommunications Department of the Telecommunications Department of radio measurement instruments major; 1979 to the California University of California, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara geography and remote sensing master of geography and remote sensing, and obtained a master's degree in geography and remote sensing in 1981; and California University, Santa Barbara geography and remote sensing in 1985. Master's degree in image processing, Department of electronic and computer engineering. The director of the center for remote sensing and geographic information systems research center, vice president of the Institute of resources and environment of Beijing Normal University, was also the director of the Institute for remote sensing applications of the CAS since 2002. Since the end of
1970, Li Xiaowen has been working in the field of Geoscience and remote sensing information science for a long time. It has created the geometric optical model of Li-Strahler and selected the "milestone series" of the international optical engineering society. A series of research results from his research team and his research team strongly promote the development of quantitative remote sensing research and keep our country in the world leading position in the field of multi angle remote sensing.
it is said that Li Xiaowen, like the sweeping monk in the eight parts of the dragon, means a small, silent and unremarkable character, but it has an amazing talent and a great power of God.
"Economic Observer" published an interview with Li Xiaowen in 2009 3 (the author is special correspondent Yan Lizhong). Li Xiaowen talked about his time in middle school. The fastest record was that the teacher finished writing questions on the blackboard and handed out the books. The first turning point in his life was in 1965, when he wrote a refutation of Yao Wenyuan's Ping Hairui dismissal. In 1978, after taking part in the graduate school, he went abroad directly. When he was studying abroad, he did not want to do his best to study. He always kept the exam 3.5 points. If he got more than 4 points, he felt lost. When it comes to investment in basic science, he believes that the state should be "logistics minister".
below is the full text of the article.
all morning, at his office in Beijing Normal University, the sixty-one year old scientist was constantly delivering smoke and ignition for reporters sitting on a leather sofa, while he himself sat on his little bamboo chair and repeated it to us in Mandarin with a strong Sichuan accent. He has never studied hard, never struggled for anything, and never had much consciousness and ambition.
his speed is very strange. If he knew beforehand that he had a habit of one kilogram of Erguotou a day, you would even suspect that he drank a few more cups in the morning. He did not deny that his life was lucky, because he had caught up with the trend of reform and opening up, but he said he was never in any way, because he was too lazy to do it. He said he had never learned to speak falsehood until he got into trouble in the 1965 article, and then found the lie. Although he claimed that "shut up is okay, it's not too painful", but when recording the recording, you will find that this simple person still says a lot.
Li Xiaowen
I belong to the kind of naughty child
Economic Observer: is it related to the growth experience of a scientist as a child?
Li Xiaowen: basically, it doesn't matter. My family is a small intellectual family, my father is an engineer, my mother is an accountant. When I was young, my family education was strict, but their work was very busy and I had no time to manage. At the age of four, they had nowhere to put me, so they put me in primary school. In junior high school, I was a very poor middle school, I belong to the kind of naughty child, I have no motivation to go to school, never want to go to the high marks, and never fight for any name in the class, but I do the problem more quickly, and the fastest record is that the teacher just finished the question on the blackboard. I will hand in the paper. I have fun, but I can pass just every exam, and my grades are always medium.
Economic Observer: is it still true to go to university?
Li Xiaowen: I was in Chengdu Telecom Engineering College in 1963. At that time, I still didn't like to go to class, and I didn't like to do homework. The teachers in the first semester of the University have asked me to "doubt" because they seldom do their homework, and "doubt" is the teacher to see what you need to make up for the course. Many students feel that the teacher called "doubt" is very disgraceful, but I am very happy to go, with the teacher a mess, when leaving, the teacher will always say, you don't doubt, go to the exam.
Economic Observer: when did your first life turn?
Li Xiaowen: one day in 1965, I saw an article on Yao Wenyuan's "Ping Hairui disgrace" in the Guangming Daily. I wrote a refutation article to the Guangming Daily, and soon received their notice. Unexpectedly, the situation suddenly changed. The manuscript was not only allowed to be published, but also returned to the University as a serious political incident. It became a crime proof for me.
when we graduate, we graduated four files, the first gear is the most politically red, can be divided into the National Defense Department Work Commission; the second gear is politically feasible, can be divided into the Ministry of Electronic Science and technology; the third gear is ordinary people, generally divided into local units; the fourth gear is that we have made a little mistake, not much more. The big crime, no big handle, they do not know how to determine how to determine, so I arranged to a farm in Xichang, a farm, is a punishment for writing.
Economic Observer: what do you do on the farm to worry about your way out?
Li Xiaowen: grinding time on a farm. The way out certainly is to think, but also do not know where, at that time, the individual has nothing to choose, only to wait, that feeling is like now the young people often say "depressed". However, I think if there is a skill to be redistributed later, I will learn to repair diesel engines and tractors when I am slack. A year and a half later, taking care of the husband and wife relationship, I was told to go to a small wireless power plant in Mianyang as a technician, and it was very happy to be able to come out of the countryside.
Economic Observer: do you feel better after entering the factory?
Li Xiaowen: it's not a good day. I will not show myself. In that small factory, nature will not be reused. At the very beginning, let me go to the countryside to fix the walkie talkie, that is, adding a networking function to the radio and turning them into cable stations. Later, the factory opened a repair shop, let me be responsible, and let me bring an apprentice. I did not work hard. After I taught my apprentice, I went home to take my children. Once, the apprentice cooks in an electric stove in the market department. After the blackout, he did not pull the plug and left. After the call, the shop department was on fire. Although the apprentice is a direct responsible person, I am his master, and naturally I have to make a review. The sales department was burnt out, and they didn't know where to put me. They let me go to the instrument department to do the product. After a while, I went to graduate school.
Economic Observer: is the postgraduate entrance examination to learn more, or to get rid of the undesirable situation?
Li Xiaowen: I have no big ambitions either. On that day, I was in the factory of Mianyang, at 4 p.m., and the Secretary of the branch came to chat. I said in the newspaper to restore the entrance examination. I mistook him to encourage me to go to the exam. By the time of 6 p.m., all the people in the factory knew I was going to take a postgraduate entrance examination, and they all asked me with mockery. All kinds of sarcastic words were flying. Instead, I forced me to take the test. Now, in retrospect, if there is no Secretary of the branch to talk with the people in the factory, I will never think of going to graduate school.
while learning remote sensing, looking at the novel
Economic Observer: when I went to the Chinese Academy of Sciences to learn remote sensing, what kind of subject did I think it was?
Li Xiaowen: to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, we don't know much about remote sensing. In fact, my adviser at the time, Mr. Yang Shiren, was engaged in computer image processing. I signed up in 1977 and took part in the entrance examination in 1978. I was not accepted. I was notified to take part in English examination and then went abroad. So I didn't learn remote sensing at all.
Economic Observer: so, until you went to the United States, did you begin to study your profession for the first time?
Li Xiaowen: it doesn't seem to be. Just feel that they are sent out by the public. After going back, I have to do things well, I am sorry to learn too poorly, so I am a little more serious than I used to be. But I always pass my requirements, because I am a character from childhood. Graduate students in the United States, the full score is five points, at three five to be warned, every time I try to get higher than three five, but if I got on four points I feel bad, I have to try to get the score down.
Economic Observer: what do you like best in America?
Li Xiaowen: the thing that seems to do most is reading novels. Many novels, including Jin Yong's Swordsman, are not seen in China at all. There is a story in the library which is the novels of Eastern countries such as China and Japan. I saw so many novels for the first time. Their library is open shelves, and there is no limit to borrowing. Every time I borrow a book from a travelling bag, I borrow a bag at a time. At that time, I liked reading Jin Yong best, and I liked Linghu Chong in the laughing stock. I feel a little bit like Linghu Chong in character.
Economic Observer: while studying remote sensing and reading novels, what kind of life is it?
Li Xiaowen: I didn't sum up what kind of life I had. That is what should be done, and when there is time to read novels, this may be the greatest pleasure of intellectuals.
Economic Observer: didn't you want to stay in the United States?
Li Xiaowen: it's not totally unexpected, but basically I don't think it matters anywhere. I do not have other people to return to the country to return to the country's awareness, really not, but in the same year is Mr. Yang of the three of us sent out, later Mr. Yang as the director, called us back, we three all come back. It is not that we are very conscious. Of course, as the first batch of overseas students in the country in 1979, they always felt that they had spent a lot of money on the people and did not return to China to ask for a guilty conscience.
Economic Observer: Professor Yang has not taught you personally. How can he have such strong charisma?
Li Xiaowen: when I was a graduate student, I had a problem. I could do it entirely, but I didn't see brackets, so I neglected it. At that time, I had a lot of pressure on my graduate students. I wanted to take a test. I tried to write a letter to Mr. Yang, saying that the question should be no problem, but I did not see the brackets. I didn't expect miss yang to reply to my letter very soon. He said, "you can see that you are negligent, so you will not completely discount your question." I was particularly touched by this. Now, I am also taking teacher Yang as an example. I have learned a lot, but I have no idea about high consciousness.
