Re: the 48 year old extreme runner plans to run from Antarctica to the north pole, running 90 kilometers at most.
Bai Bin: everyone at home supports me very much. My wife is also a marathon runner and is the first Chinese to stand on the UTMB podium of the world's top cross-country race. She wanted to accompany me to complete the challenge, but for special reasons, it failed to come. They are now hoping that I will not be too tired, pay attention to safety, protect their bodies and return safely. In the domestic running circle, everyone knows my level. Some people say that this is a matter of "moving China, shaking the world and inspiring mankind". I hope my actions can affect many people and really run.
New Beijing News: how to solve the food and lodging on the road?
Bai Bin: every station is the other members of the team to fight the outpost and choose the accommodation. At noon, they cooked rice, sent them to me on the road, when in the evening, when to eat (the end) and when to eat in the morning. Everyone in the group has cooked meals for me, and I am running here with "100 rice". Usually they provide me with supplies every five kilometers, and the replenishment of external energy is very important for long-distance running. Without my team, it would be difficult for me to complete this challenge.
running has been integrated into my life
Beijing News: what does running mean for you?
Bai Bin: for me, running is not only a hobby, but also a career. It has been integrated into my life. I have roughly calculated that in the past 18 years, I have run nearly 20 countries, almost 320 thousand kilometers. I feel that I might run all my life and have been running on the road, because that's what I love from my heart. If I live to be 100, I think I'll run to 100. Running for more than a decade, I feel that life is simpler and fuller, I have a clear goal every day, there is no trouble, just run towards the goal. The result is not important. I enjoy this experience and process very much.
Bai Bin runs snow in Chile. Interviewees for the map
Beijing News: have they run any risks in running these years?
Bai Bin: in 2001, I ran from Lhasa to moto, when Moore had already entered the snow season. My hands and feet were frozen and sent to the hospital. In the hospital, the doctor saw that my feet were black. I said they were too cold and might have to amputate. I thought at the time that I wanted to run and would rather die than amputate. I told the doctor that I could not amputate no matter what, the doctor could not resist me.
later I bought a 3000 Watt electric oven to bake frostbite feet every day while maintaining rehabilitation. A month later, it was getting better, freezing two places on the feet, but not having much impact on running. Another time on the ancient Silk Road, when food poisoning, coma for a whole day, but also closer to the hospital, was rescued back.
Beijing News: the challenge to the north and south pole is completed. What are the next plans?
Bai Bin: All these years of running life, like the game in the "fight weird upgrade" mode, the difficulty is increasing, I am also "upgrade". From Antarctica to the north pole is a big boss, but after that, I will continue to challenge my limits, without boundaries. Next, I'm going to challenge myself to climb Mount Everest. I'm going to start from the base camp of Mount Everest, and I'm going to climb to the top quickly. I hope I can climb to the top in a dozen hours.
