"the western paintings of the late Qing Dynasty were suspended in the 14 late Qing Dynasty in the Ji'nan Hong Jia building church, with very high value. It should be the western art in Ji'nan, Shandong and even the Chinese art history of China. A major discovery, Xu Guowei, the director of the Shandong Art Museum and the famous collector of art, revealed a news clue to the newspaper today, and the reporter went to the Hong Jia building to conduct a field interview.
Hongjia Lou church is a Gothic architecture in Twin Towers. The whole building is magnificent, magnificent and magnificent. Although the Catholic Church of Hong Jia Lou is a relatively pure western architecture, it can still be seen in some details influenced by Chinese traditional culture. The main hall of the church is covered with traditional Chinese small black tiles. In addition, the upper stone wall on both sides of the middle gate of the church has two stone faucets, the dragon mouth is large, the eyes open and the carving is vivid and exaggerated, which obviously draws on the traditional Chinese folk culture. Entering the church, Xu Guowei pointed to 14 wooden frames hung on both sides of the wall and said that the frames were inlaid with a complete set of western paintings describing the crucifixion of Jesus. The size of the painting is the same. Each picture is about 80 centimeters tall and 60 centimeters wide.
Xu Guowei said that the western paintings are religious subjects. From these paintings, the painting techniques are very skillful, the creative level is very high, the painting style is very mature, and its artistic style can be said to represent the high level of the European classical oil painting in the early twentieth Century. Now, though I have not seen the relevant words, I still do not know who the painter is, but from the artistic level, we should have the standard of European first-class painters. And the western paintings are not completely murals, they are painted on wood or oil canvas, so in the strict sense, it is a true western painting.
Xu Guowei has made an in-depth study of the value of these western paintings. He once visited many places in the country, and found that in addition to a small number of similar western paintings in the individual Catholic churches in Hongkong and Macao, the early western paintings in the Catholic churches of the mainland were mostly destroyed and remained very few, and the entire set of early western paintings was the first to see. "Therefore, the discovery of these western paintings is not only a major discovery in Ji'nan or Shandong, but also a major discovery in Chinese art. It has a very high research value for the study of the germination, development and creation of the western paintings in China. It exactly proves its rare degree and precious nature. Xu Guowei said: "a lot of oil painters have looked at the pictures of the above works that I have included. They are very interested in these western paintings, and think that the western painting is of great artistic value, historical value and cultural value in China." The
reporter asked the staff of the church. It was said that the Hong Jia building had been fully repaired in 1985, but the western paintings seemed to have not been repaired and should be the original.
Xu Guowei said that because of lack of written materials, his research was very superficial. If anyone studies this area and understands his creation, he can make feedback so that the 14 valuable western paintings can be known to the world. He has now paid the western paintings in his book "touch history - the pioneers of Chinese Western painting", in order to make more people know and understand these precious western paintings, and to provide more art researchers so that their value can be recognized by the art world early.
